Nhare

This work honours the nhare, a type of mbira or thumb piano. The nhare is a sacred “telephone to the ancestors” in Shona tradition. The painting invites the viewer into a moment of spiritual awakening, where metal tines are plucked to stir memory, summon spirit, and reclaim a long-lost home.

The red and black patterned cloth, mucheka weRetso, traditionally evokes ancestral presence and honours mbira masters. Its dotted design reflects the artist’s passion for Pointillism, where each mark becomes a rhythmic pulse of memory.
